Still like the classic and timeless look of traditional furniture, but also like the excitement of modern day pieces? As interior designer, I get asked all the time if it is okay to mix elements of traditional design with modern elements. My answer is always yes. If the picture above speaks to you, chances are you like transitional design (the mix of traditional and modern elements).

Below are some tips to help "transition" your home into a transitional design masterpiece!

Tip #1 - Learn what you like

If you can't pinpoint your exact design preferences, that's okay! Ask a designer, that is what we are here for. We can look at your current pieces/space and pinpoint your wants and needs for a style that speaks to you!

Tip #2 - Nervous about changing pieces? Look at examples!

At Ethan Allen - all of our pieces can be included in transitional design. Our showroom has several different room niches for you to experience what transitional design looks like in real life. Come in and ask a designer to show you around!

Tip #3 - Find individual pieces

Still not sure how to incorporate transitional design into your home? An interior designer will and can help you find your favorite pieces. Starting piece by piece at a time can help us transition our space to have the "collected" feel. Once you pick THEN we can look at the bigger picture, pick a color scheme, and see how it all lines up!

Tip #5 - Use help to your advantage!

Renovation or redesigning our homes can be scary; we are spending money on new pieces that might not look right, but we won't know until we buy and they are in our homes. This does not need to be your case! Using an interior designer, we can help you visualize your space with a mood board, real 3D renderings, floorplans, finish boards, fabric samples, the list goes on! We are trained to help you make the right choices to fulfill all of your needs!
